چکیده

The existence of adrenal cortical effects upon the metabolism of lipids is well substantiated, although their biochemical mechanism is as yet poorly understood (l-4). Perhaps the most striking demonstration of this relationship concerns hepatic synthesis of fatty acids, as illustrated by the experiments carried out by Brady et al. in 1951 (5, 6). These authors observed that the impaired lipogenesis from acetate, found in liver slices obtained from pancreatectomized cats, was returned toward normal by superimposed adrenalectomy or hypophysectomy. On the other hand, the administration of cortisone to normal animals markedly depressed lipogenesis from acetate by subsequently isolated liver tissue. More recently, Ashmore et al. (7) demonstrated that adrenalectomy restores toward normal the depressed lipogenesis from pyruvate of liver slices obtained from alloxandiabetic rats. Conversely, the administration of cortisone to these diabetic adrenalectomized animals re-established depressed hepatic lipogenesis from pyruvate. These observations, suggesting the presence of a direct glucocorticoid effect upon lipogenesis, led to the studies presented here. Since it is now well recognized that adipose tissue is a major site of lipid synthesis and release (g-lo), and is exquisitely sensitive to several hormones, it appeared of interest to test in this tissue the hypothesis of a direct adrenal cortical effect upon lipid and carbohydrate metabolism.

Effects of different culture media on optimization of primary neuronal cell culture for in vitro models assay

Background: In vitro model studies are becoming increasingly popular for experimental research designs. They include isolation and expansion of cells of a particular tissue, such as the nervous tissue which contributes to understanding the underlying mechanisms in many pathologies. It enables  the scrutinization of intracellular signaling pathways responsible for cell death. OBJECTIVES: In the ...

Influence of adenosine 3',5'-monophosphate on corticoid production by rat adrenal glands.

It has been shown that adrenocorticotropic hormone will increase the phosphorylase activity of beef adrenal cortical slices in vitro (1). On the basis of this and other observations the hypothesis was proposed that the ACTHl effect on corticoid biosynthesis is mediated by the increased levels of TPNH which result from dehydrogenation of glucose 6-phosphate arising at an accelerated rate from gl...

Comparison of the effects of progesterone and 17 β-estradiol on Schwann cell markers expression in rat adipose-derived stem cells

Steroids promote the myelination and regeneration in the peripheral nervous system. Whereas, little is known about the inducing effects by which the hormones exert their effects on Schwann cells differentiation. This could be revealed by the expression of Schwann cell markers in adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs). The purpose of this study was to present the effects of progesterone and 17 β-est...

Mesenchymal Stem Cells Derived from Rat Epicardial Versus Epididymal Adipose Tissue

Objective(s) Some investigation has indicated that adipose-derived stem cells possess different surface epitopes and differentiation potential according to the localization of fat pad from which the cells were derived. In the present study proliferation capacity and aging of such cells were explored. Materials and Methods Adherent cells were isolated from the collagenase digests of adipose tiss...

Skin wound healing following the spray of human abdominal adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells in diabetic male rat

Introduction: Diabetes is rising worldwide and impaired wound healing is one of its major complications. This study aimed to determine the effects of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) on wound healing in diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, abdominal adipose tissue was obtained from 10 patients who underwent an abdominoplasty. MSCs were isolated from adi...
